The laughter doesn't stop
You wouldn't expect it, but Clint Eastwood has impeccable phrasing. Believe me, you will agree. Listen to him sing: "Let's harmonize, we'll be Dy-no-mite" and tell me i'm wrong. I can't stop listening to this.
I just got the Nasville sessions where Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash jammed together and it's just, you know, two dudes sitting around and playing some songs they don't both know that well. Given, they are two of the best musicians of their time. I think a recording like that is bound to disappoint to some extent, even if it's fun (and it is, like when Cash prompts a blanking Dylan with the second verse on That's Alright Mama.)
On the other hand, this collaboration, which would hardly seem monumental (remember Eastwood in the musical Paint Your Wagon? Let's just say that even Eastwood seemed decent enough next to Lee Marvin; both do all their own singing, of course...) is far better than i could have dreamt.
There isn't much else to say, except, don't sue me Clint. The only other nice thing i can say about him is that maybe Million Dollar Baby was more Paul Haggis's fault than his. Crash. Jesus.
Coming soon: Christmas songs.
